Dodge introduces an AWD Challenger GT, no V8 though

Do you wish to take your new muscle car into the snow? If you answered yes, Dodge has an answer. Introducing the 2017 Dodge Challenger GT AWD, a V6 powered muscle car with all wheels planted on the ground.

You will sort of be able to get the full muscle car experience,  with the GT’s only engine option being the 305 hp Pentastar V6 powerplant.

The Challenger GT is still fully 100% rear-wheel drive in regular driving, but when the system is called into action, the system will route power to the front wheels, thus sending power to all four wheels to avoid a slip in unpleasant conditions such as snow. Power is routed through an 8 Speed ZF transmission with the same transfer case and front-axle disconnect as the AWD Charger, but this time in coupe form.

Fiat Chrysler says you can expect 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. To make up for not coming with a V8 option, Dodge includes a Sport mode, Paddle shifters, and launch control.

The GT comes nicely equipped with Nappa trimmed leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8.4 inch UConnect display with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, a 276-watt Alpine system, and metal-trimmed pedals. The exterior comes with 235/55R-19 tires, projector-beam fog lamps, and a decklid spoiler.

Production is said to start in January. Prices start at a somewhat reasonable $34,490.
