Huawei unveils futuristic phone, won’t show notifications to everyone

Before we continue, we’d like to inform you that this phone is only slated to be available in China right now, however, we hope that it’ll come stateside soon.

They’ve been teasing us for the past few months for their upcoming “concept” device and how it’ll have features that’ll rival iPhone and other high-end phone companies. But, the teasing has ended, Huawei unveiled their new Honor Magic phone in China this week, saying that this device is from the future.

The Honor Magic is powered by some impressive specifications:

  • 5-inch AMOLED 2K display
  • 12 Megapixel dual lens rear camera, 8-megapixel front.
  • 2.3GHz octa-core Huawei Kirin 950
  • 2,900 mAH battery
  • 64 GB of internal storage
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • Available in Porcelain White, or Golden black (hmm..)

While these specs seem similar to the US-bound Honor 8, things get freaky with the display.

It features a system called WiseScreen and FaceCode. WiseScreen combines the phone’s frame, an infrared sensor, and the camera to recognize the owner’s eyes and hands to turn the display on. FaceCode is an intelligent facial recognition engine that allows the phone to read your face and hand to determine if you have access to the phone, and will show you your notifications on the screen, if you’re not authorized, notifications will not display.

Huawei also released some AI driven features of the device:

  • Imagine when you are chatting about movies with your friends on WeChat, Honor Magic will then be able to recommend the latest blockbusters for you.
  • Imagine when you are on the road, Honor Magic automatically recognizes that you are driving and will prompt a reminder for you to switch the device to driving mode.
  • DeepThink – Press and hold the home button and Honor Magic will offer multi-facet information based on the current web page you visit.
  • Once you use Honor Magic to order a cab, the driver’s license plate information will be shown on the display under locked screen mode.
  • Once you arrive at the theater, Honor Magic will automatically display the ticket booking number.
  • When you approach the parcel collection counter, Honor Magic will automatically display the tracking number.

In the end, this is a really cool device. It seems like these devices are forbidden fruit to us stateside, for now.
